Best time to visit Paris
Late April to early June, and September to mid-October
Paris is at its loveliest in late spring and early autumn, when days are mild, terraces fill and the parks glow, though hotels charge for the privilege. Summer brings long evenings and big crowds, with heatwaves and many local shops shut in August. Winter is grey, damp and short on daylight, but it is cheap, quiet and ideal for museums, cafes and the January sales.

Timing tips for Paris
- Book hotels three to four months ahead for May, June, September and October, when the French Open, fashion weeks and trade fairs fill rooms fast.
- In August many independent restaurants, bakeries and shops close for two to four weeks; check opening dates before planning meals around specific places.
- Few older hotels and apartments have air conditioning, so for summer trips filter for it and pre-book timed entry to the Louvre, Eiffel Tower and Sainte-Chapelle to skip long queues.
