Best time to visit Prague
May to early June and September, with December for Christmas markets
Prague is at its best in late spring and early autumn, when the weather is mild, the gardens are open and the crowds are manageable. Summer brings long warm days but heavy crowds on Charles Bridge, peak hotel prices and occasional thunderstorms, while Advent is busy and festive. January to March is cold and grey but quiet and cheap, which suits beer halls, museums and concerts.

Timing tips for Prague
- Book hotels two to three months ahead for May, Easter, Advent weekends and New Year's Eve, when the best Old Town and Malá Strana rooms sell out.
- Visit Charles Bridge and Prague Castle before 8am or after dark year-round; in summer this is the only way to see them without shoulder-to-shoulder crowds.
- Many palace and terraced gardens below the Castle open only from April to October, so spring and autumn visits get both the gardens and gentler prices.
