Best time to visit Milan
April to early June and September to October, avoiding major fair weeks
Milan is a business city first, so hotel prices follow the trade-fair and fashion calendar more than the weather. Spring and early autumn bring mild days and the best of the city's life, while July is humid and August sees many locals and family-run shops leave for Ferragosto. Winter is often grey and foggy but cheap, cultured and lively with opera, shopping and Christmas markets.

Timing tips for Milan
- Check the Fiera Milano and fashion week calendars before booking; hotel rates can triple during Salone del Mobile, fashion weeks and EICMA, so book 3 to 6 months ahead or pick other dates.
- Reserve The Last Supper tickets as soon as release dates open, typically several months ahead, as they sell out quickly year-round.
- In July and August, plan sightseeing for mornings, take a lake day trip in the afternoon heat, and confirm restaurants are open around Ferragosto.
