Best time to visit Lisbon
Late April to early June and mid-September to October
Lisbon is warm, sunny and lively from spring to autumn, but July and August bring peak crowds, higher prices and a sweaty climb up every hill. Winter is mild and much cheaper, though wet spells and cold, unheated interiors come with it. The sweet spot is spring and early autumn, when the light is golden, the sea is swimmable or close to it, and the city feels like itself.

Timing tips for Lisbon
- Book three to four months ahead for June (Santo Antonio), July and August, and for Web Summit week in November, when hotel prices can double.
- In winter, choose accommodation with proper heating and dehumidifiers; Lisbon buildings are often uninsulated and feel colder indoors than out.
- In summer, tackle the steep hills and Sintra early in the morning, take a long lunch, and head to the Cascais or Costa da Caparica beaches in the afternoon heat.
