Best time to visit Dublin
May to September, with May, June and September the sweet spot
Dublin is never truly hot or truly freezing, so the real trade-off is daylight, rain and price. Late spring and early autumn bring long evenings, fewer showers and slightly calmer hotels than peak July and August. Winter is grey, damp and dark by mid-afternoon, but it is also when the city is cheapest and its pubs, theatres and museums feel cosiest.

Timing tips for Dublin
- Dublin hotels are expensive year-round, so book two to three months ahead for summer, St Patrick's week, rugby internationals and big Croke Park or Aviva concerts.
- Pack a waterproof and layers whatever the month: showers blow through quickly, and a dry morning rarely guarantees a dry afternoon.
- Plan around Christmas closures: from 24 to 26 December most attractions, many restaurants and nearly all public transport shut down, and some pubs close on Good Friday morning too.
