Best time to visit Budapest
Late April to early June and September to mid-October
Budapest is at its best in spring and early autumn, when it is warm enough for river walks and rooftop bars without the sticky heat of high summer. July and August bring heatwaves, Sziget and Grand Prix crowds, and peak prices, although the thermal baths and open-air ruin bars come alive. Winter is cold and often grey, but the Christmas markets and steaming outdoor baths give December real magic, and January to March offers bargains for those happy to wrap up.
