Best time to visit Barcelona
Mid-May to June and September to early October
Barcelona is at its best in late spring and early autumn, when the sea is swimmable, the evenings are long and the heat is manageable. July and August bring sticky humidity, packed beaches and peak prices, while winter is mild, bright and much cheaper, though too cool for the beach. Autumn is the wettest stretch, with short, heavy downpours rather than days of drizzle.

Timing tips for Barcelona
- Check the Mobile World Congress dates (late February or early March) and avoid that week unless you book months ahead; hotel rates can triple.
- Book Sagrada Família, Park Güell and Casa Batlló timed tickets online two to four weeks ahead from April to October, as same-day slots often sell out.
- In summer, sightsee early, take a long lunch and siesta, and head out again after 6pm; in autumn, pack a light rain jacket for short, heavy downpours.
